We do not recommend this. We make the rolling pin design as a display item. Although we do not finish it with any harmful products we can not guarantee that the burning process will still enable it to be used with food. We can recommend a wax or oil that is suitable for use in food that can be wiped on the rolling pin - this would require your continual re-aplication to ensure that the design does not interfere with your intended use.
